I picked up a copy of Volume #7 today at Media Play (last on in stock).  I haven't read it yet, but the tease for #8 looks like a worse ending than the anime.

The ending is kind of... well, less beautiful than in the anime, but results the same way. We learn a lot of things that were left out to explain in episode 14 of the anime.
